“Club” has a number of meanings. It can mean a stick, often used as weapon. For card players it is one of the suits — black, three leaves attached to a stem. It is also an association of people brought together by a common interest or purpose. So there are football clubs and youth clubs. The group of older, retired men, who meet everyday at the same time at the same shop to drink tea and talk, are also a kind of club. Some clubs are very hard to join. Some clubs are open to all.
