Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) organized a workshop titled “Developing Youth Academic Skills” for secondary and higher secondary students of St. Joseph’s High School and College, Dharenda, Savar, on August 17, 2025.
The program aimed to enhance academic skills and equip young learners with practical knowledge for their future studies. Around 150 students took part in the workshop with keen enthusiasm.
The first session, conducted by Yeassin Saha Nawaj Salim, Lecturer in the Department of English at NDUB, focused on essay writing. He introduced students to effective strategies for structuring essays and encouraged them to rely on globally accepted academic practices instead of memorization-based approaches.
The second session featured a documentary produced by NDUB’s Public Relations Office, followed by a PowerPoint presentation from Emad Uddin Sordar, Public Relations Officer of NDUB. The presentation highlighted the university’s lively campus life, academic opportunities, and student support facilities.
Offering his remarks, Dr. Fr. Subash Adam Pereira, CSC, Treasurer of NDUB, shared the university’s values and student-centered initiatives. He inspired participants to pursue critical thinking and creativity through storytelling and led the students in singing “We Shall Overcome, Someday,” creating a memorable and motivating moment.
Addressing the participants, Fr. Ashim Theotonius Gonsalves, CSC, Deputy Registrar of NDUB, reminded students: “Your future is in your hands; you need to shape your own fate.” He added that success comes to those who set clear goals, embrace hard work, and remain resilient in the face of challenges.
Sr. Mary Nomita, SMRA, Principal of St. Joseph’s High School and College, thanked NDUB for arranging the program and appreciated its relevance for her students. She encouraged them to remain thoughtful and well-informed when making decisions about their higher education.
Sharing their experiences, participants Nowshin Ahmed Maria and Banarji Tripura said the workshop was highly beneficial, particularly in enhancing their essay-writing skills. Meanwhile, NDUB students and alumni of St. Joseph’s, Eti Rozario and Rian Lawrence Rozario, highlighted how NDUB shaped both their personal growth and academic development.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and gift items to all participants. The program was made possible with the support of Newton Mondol from NDUB’s PR Office, along with a dedicated team of student volunteers.
