The Department of English clinched the NDUB Inter-Department Cricket Tournament 2026 title after a tense nail-biter victory over the Department of Law in a high-voltage final at the university playground on Saturday (February 7, 2026).
In a dramatic scenario, English needed 13 runs from the final over with both sides still in contention; whereupon skipper Neel held his nerve and sealed the match with a six, guiding English to a 2-wicket victory.
The triumph took the English Department to a joint-highest tally of four championships and marked their sixth consecutive appearance in an NDUB Inter-Department Cricket final, a record in the tournament’s history.
After winning the toss in the final, Law chose to bat first but faced early pressure from English’s disciplined bowling attack. The top order struggled to settle before Siam steadied the innings with a fighting knock that helped Law recover and post a competitive total of 104 runs.
In reply, English got off to a shaky start, losing a wicket in the opening over. Neel then took charge with confidence and rebuilt the innings to keep English in the contest. However, a run-out and a sudden cluster of wickets swung the momentum back in Law’s favor, turning the match into a real nail-biter.
With the pressure mounting and wickets falling, Sabbir played a crucial supporting role, rotating the strike and holding one end. Neel, showing composure and experience, anchored the chase and brought the equation down to the final over. His match-winning knock of 64 runs from 21 deliveries secured him the Player of the Final honor.
