In a lively display of culture and creativity, Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) celebrated Club Day and Noboborsho (Bengali New Year) on Saturday (May 2, 2026), transforming the campus into a vibrant hub of tradition, color, and enthusiasm.
The program was graced by the presence of NDUB Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Charles B. Gordon, CSC, Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Fr. George Kamal Rozario, CSC, Registrar Dr. Br. Subal Lawrence Rozario, CSC, and Club Coordinator Sr. Shagorica Maria Gomes, CSC.
The event commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag and the NDUB flag, accompanied by the National Anthem. Subsequently, club flags were raised by the respective moderators and co-moderators. The program was officially inaugurated with a balloon and dove release, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Guests later visited various club stalls and interacted with students, moderators, and faculty members.
During his speech, Fr. Patrick said, “Traditional celebrations like the Bengali New Year remind us that our lives move within a meaningful cycle of time, renewal, and reflection. Each year, as the planet completes its journey around the sun and returns once again, we are given the opportunity to begin anew.”
“We celebrate new years, new days, and new hopes, recognizing that life itself is a constant return and renewal. At the same time, we are reminded of the many responsibilities we carry: the care for our families, the bonds of friendship, the joy of shared celebrations, the strength of solidarity, the pursuit of knowledge, and the commitment to humanity. This occasion embodies the true spirit of gratitude and solidarity. Let us cherish it with sincerity and purpose,” he added.
Fr. Charles said, “An iceberg may appear magnificent above the surface, sometimes as vast as a city, but nearly ninety percent of it remains hidden beneath the water. This program is much like that iceberg. What we see today is only a small portion of the effort.”
“Those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this occasion possible truly deserve a heartfelt round of applause. Today, we not only celebrate the event but also acknowledge and appreciate those invisible efforts that made it possible,” he further said.
Addressing students, Fr. George Kamal said, “Be like candles and spread light across the nation and the world. Let your light reach beyond boundaries, contributing to a better society and a brighter world.”
Br. Subal said, “When we celebrate, we remember the people, the culture, and the shared heritage that unite us. We recall the contributions, struggles, and achievements that shape our collective identity. Let us step forward into a new chapter and a new life.”
In the cultural session, guests were welcomed with flowers. Visual presentations and performances by seven clubs entertained the audience. NDUB Law Club, Computer Club, Drama and Film Club, Cultural Club, Debate Club, English Club, and Business Club showcased their talents through diverse performances.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Sr. Shagorica, followed by a showcase of traditional folk songs.
