About the program
The aim of this Program is to facilitate students upgrading their knowledge of English language, literature, linguistics and ELT along with some other areas of Humanities. Consequently the undergraduate courses offered to the students have been designed considering the courses offered in various reputed universities, home and abroad, keeping in view the ever-increasing horizon of Arts.
Students are admitted into the Undergraduate Program of the Department of English under the Faculty of Arts. The degree offered is called ‘Bachelor of Arts in English’

Program details
The Undergraduate curriculum of the University is based on the Credit System. In the curriculum for the 4-year Undergraduate Program, strong emphasis is given on acquiring thorough knowledge in the relevant courses, which helps the students to interact more positively with the society in which they live.

Design of the Course Structure
- The Undergraduate Program consists of 42 courses including Comprehensive Exam and Viva-voce of three credits each.
- Two lectures of 1.5 hours (total 3 hours) a week is equivalent to three credit hours.
- Five (5) courses are foundation courses; 27 Core Courses; 9 courses are in major areas and 1 course consists of a thesis.

- ENG 4303 – Drama
- ENG 4305 – Poetry
- ENG 4307 – Prose
- ENG 4309 – 20th Century English Poetry
- ENG 4311 – 20th Century English Fiction
- ENG 4313 – 20th Century English Drama
- ENG 4315 – 20th Century American Literature
- ENG 4317 – Introduction to Bangle Literature
- ENG 4319 – World literature: Asian, African, Latin American
Students will take 1 3-credit Course out of the following 10:
- ENG 4302 – Introduction to Linguistics
- ENG 4304 – Phonetics and Phonology
- ENG 4306 – Sociolinguistics
- ENG 4308 – Psycholinguistics
- ENG 4310 – Methods & Materials of Teaching English
- ENG 4312 – Practice Teaching
- ENG 4314 – Educational Psychology
- ENG 4316 – Syllabus Design,
- ENG 4318 – Testing and Evaluation
- ENG 4320 – Discourse Analysis
Students with CGPA 3.25 can be allowed to write a thesis.
Others sit for a Comprehensive examination for 3 credits and do a project for 3 credits.
Admission Eligibility
A candidate for admission into the 4 year Bachelor program must have the minimum following qualifications:
- Minimum GPA 2.5 in HSC and SSC each individually
- Minimum grade C in 2 major subjects in ‘A’ Level and 5 subjects of ‘O’ Level or High School Diploma in US
- Qualifying marks in admission test (written and oral)
- The gap between passing HSC or 'A' Level and applying for admission cannot be more than three (3) years.
The rules and conditions for admission into this department shall be construed by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the Admission Committee each year.
Waiver Structure & Eligibility
Waiver Based On Merit:
- 50% tuition fee waiver for one following trimester for those who get CGPA 4:00 out of 4:00.
- 40% tuition fee waiver for one following trimester for those who get CGPA 3.94 to 3.99.
- 30% tuition fee waiver for one following trimester for those who get CGPA 3.88 to 3.93.
