Fr. Francis Lee Quinlivan, CSC: An Exemplary Priest of Holy Cross

Fr. Francis Lee Quinlivan was known as Father Frank in Bangladesh. He was born on 4 September 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was ordained in the priesthood on 4 April 1970. He came to Bangladesh in 1979 as a missionary. He is a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Province, Bangladesh. He was the former Provincial Superior of Holy Cross Fathers, Bangladesh from 2006-2012. He is a member of the Board of Trustees at Notre Dame University Bangladesh. He is also a councilor of the Provincial administration.
He has been a prominent figure in the Bangladesh Catholic Church for his special qualities and ministries. He knew the heritage and history of the Bangladesh Catholic Church well. He has been an archivist, preacher, writer, trainer, Spiritual Director for men and women Religious, aspirants, and seminarians. He worked for orphans, Mother Teresa Sisters, and the Contemplative Sisters of St. Clare as a chaplain. He was a friend of widows, the underprivileged and oppressed, a refuge for poor students and nurses under training. He was a teacher, guide, good writer, and compiler of historical documents in the various fields of the Province as well as the Bangladesh Catholic Church. He was a man without complain and a happy religious priest, and he had an impact on the lives of Priests, Brothers, Sisters, Seminarians, Aspirants, and laity.
He was admitted to the Square General Hospital Ltd. on January 4, 2024, because of different health problems. After the diagnosis, the doctors found cancer in his gallbladder and prostate gland. After a temporary discharge from the hospital, he was admitted again on January 28, 2024. Finally, he passed away on the same day at 9: 45 p.m. at Square General Hospital Ltd. Dhaka, Bangladesh.
On the next day, the Requiem Mass took place at Holy Rosary Church, Tejgaon, presided by His Grace Archbishop Bejoy N.D’Cruze, OMI, and Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, CSC (who gave homily), Bishop Theotonious Gomes, CSC, Fr. George Kamal Rozario, CSC, Fr. Subrato B. Gomes, and other priests concelebrating. Religious Brothers, Sisters, seminarians, aspirants, and lay people attended the Mass.
The Funeral Mass took place at Holy Cross Pastoral Centre, Pubail, Gazipur, at 3 p.m. presided by Most Rev. Ponen Paul Kubi, CSC, the bishop of Mymensingh Catholic Diocese. Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, Bishop Theotonious Gomes, Fr. George Kalmal Rozario, and priests from the Congregation and dioceses were concelebrants. After the Funeral Mass, Fr. George K. Rozario led the funeral rites at the grave. Fr. Frank L. Quinlivan was burried in the cemetery of the Congregation of Holy Cross Priests, Bangladesh on 29 January 2024.
