Seminar on “INTRODUCTION TO ROBOTICS”

The seminar on “Introduction to Robotics” held on 8 August 2023 was a remarkable event that brought together esteemed guests, faculty members, participants, and talented speakers to explore the fascinating realm of robotics. The event showcased the collaborative efforts of the Notre Dame University Computer Club (NDUBCC) in organizing an enlightening and inspiring session.

The seminar on “Introduction to Robotics” held on 8 August 2023 was a remarkable event that brought together esteemed guests, faculty members, participants, and talented speakers to explore the fascinating realm of robotics. The event showcased the collaborative efforts of the Notre Dame University Computer Club (NDUBCC) in organizing an enlightening and inspiring session.

The event commenced with expressions of gratitude to the honorable guests, including Fr. Charles B Gordon, Treasurer Dr. Fr. Subash Adam Pereira, CSC, Registrar Dr. Fr. Leonard Shankar Rozario, CSC, Deputy Controller of Examinations Fr. Boniface Tolentino, CSC, Dean of Faculty Prof. Dr. Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, Department Chairman Prof. Dr. Shaheena Sultana, Club Moderator Prof. A.H.M Saiful Islam, Co-Moderator Humayara Binte Rashid and faculty members including Dr. Fernaz Narin Nur, Stanly Pius Rozario, Nafisa Tabassum, Mondira Chakraborty, Afsana Sharmin Shanta and Dhiman Roy who graced the occasion. We are really grateful to Theodore Sourav Palma sir and Vokto Kumar Biswas sir for staying with us till the end of the seminar. Their presence added distinction and eminence to the seminar, reflecting the institution’s commitment to fostering knowledge and exploration.

The podium was shared by honorable Fr. Charles B Gordon who shared his insights, followed by inspiring words from Dr. Fr. Subash Adam Pereira, CSC, Prof. Dr. Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, and Prof. Dr. Shaheena Sultana, adding depth and context to the seminar’s theme.

A highlight of the seminar was the unveiling of the newly crafted Club board by NDUBCC members, a tangible representation of their commitment and creativity. The new Club board was made from scratch with computer particles. We are really thankful for such a unique idea and the effort behind making this beautiful creation. The effort put into its creation was acknowledged, paying tribute to the students who invested their passion and diligence into the project. Our respective guests and all of our faculty members joined in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate this auspicious moment.

NDUBCC organized a video presentation on “The history of robotics” to give a brief about the goal of robot creation, the evolution of Industrial robots, and how robotics is related to computer science and engineering.

As the seminar progressed, anticipation heightened with the arrival of the esteemed speakers for the event, Emon Roy Bappy, Project Leader for Wheel and Arms Control Electronics, and Mohammad Samir Hassan, Electrical Sub Team Leader in Team Interplanetary were highlighted, underscoring their significant contributions. Team Interplanetar’s commendable achievements, including securing 4th position worldwide and 1st position in Bangladesh at the European Rover Challenge in 2022, garnered well-deserved recognition. Their Mission is to build a rover (Mongol-E v 3.0) that can perform all tasks according to the rule book of URC – 2019.

Their presence was recognized as a privilege, considering their instrumental roles in the robotics domain. A warm thank you was extended to them for sharing their time and expertise with the audience. The seminar reached its climax as Emon Roy Bappy and Mohammad Samir Hassan were formally welcomed to the stage, accompanied by thunderous applause.

Then our invited guests started their presentation on “Introduction to Robotics”, who delved deep into the world of robotics, highlighting its cutting-edge advancements and its potential to revolutionize various industries. Their engaging presentations and thought-provoking discussions left our students captivated and inspired.

The speakers were commended for their dedication to the event despite their busy schedules. The speakers shared their extensive knowledge and experiences in the field of robotics. From this seminar, students have learned –

a) Fundamental concepts of Robotics

b) Use of components in Robotics

c) Mechanical Design and Manufacturing in Robotics

d) Basic knowledge of microcontrollers and programming.

e) Control system of Robotics

f) Basic knowledge of ROS and SLAM

g) Robot communication system

h) PCB design

i) Components availability and market value inside our country

j) How to create a displayed WALL-E robot into an actual functional robot.

The audience responded with heartfelt applause, showcasing their appreciation for the speakers’ contributions and accomplishments. The event concluded with a formal note of thanks, appreciating the collective effort that made the seminar a success. Prof. Dr. Shaheena Sultana Mam, Prof. A.H.M Saiful Islam, and the instructors were invited on stage to present tokens of appreciation to Emon Roy Bappy and Mohammad Samir Hassan, symbolizing the institution’s acknowledgment of their insights and expertise.

As the event wrapped up with the Q/A session with the attendance, students also faculty members shared their curiosity about Robotics and got satisfied with their answers. Lastly, the anticipation of future seminars lingered, with the hope of delving deeper into captivating sectors such as robotics. The co-moderator, Humayara Binte Rashid Ma’am, extended a vote of thanks to all involved; emphasizing the collaborative spirit and the profound impact such seminars have on knowledge enrichment.

In summary, the seminar on “Introduction to Robotics” was a grand success, fostering an environment of learning, collaboration, and innovation. It showcased the achievements and aspirations of TEAM INTERPLANETAR while providing a platform for experts, participants, and faculty members to engage and exchange insights.
