Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) celebrated “Teachers’ Day 2025” on October 21 to honor its educators through a lively and heartfelt program.
The program, themed “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” began with a candle-lighting by Dr. Fr. Charles B. Gordon, CSC, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NDUB, along with department heads and students, accompanied by a song that symbolized respect and appreciation. Cultural Club members then performed a graceful welcome dance.
Teachers were honored with flowers, cards, and badges presented by Dr. Fr. Charles B. Gordon, CSC, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Fr. Subash Adam Pereira, CSC, Treasurer, and Dr. Bro Subal Lawrence Rozario, CSC, Registrar.
In his speech, Fr. Charles said a teacher is a beacon of discipline, values, and knowledge. He pointed out that a teacher’s conduct becomes a model for students to follow, and that true teaching is not just about delivering lessons but also about being present for students and guiding them through challenges. He added that a disciplined teacher helps in creating disciplined individuals.
Mentioning Guru-Shishya tradition, Fr. Adam said it emphasizes holistic learning, where the guru shapes not only the intellect but also the character and spirit of the disciple. He highlighted that this sacred bond is built on discipline, respect, and devotion. Fr. Adam noted that a true guru imparts wisdom that shapes the destiny. At that time, he expressed the importance of honoring this timeless tradition and recognizing teachers as guiding lights in our lives.
Tasnuva Sharmin Tushi, Associate Professor in the Law Department, shared her reflections as a teacher, while student representative Tasnim Rashid expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of students.
A short audiovisual presentation prepared by the Public Relations Office showcased moments celebrating teacher-student bonds.
The second half included a group song “Mongol Deep Jele” performed by NDUB teachers and students, and a drama by NDUB Drama and Film Club members, highlighting the joy of teaching and learning.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Bro. Subal, bringing the celebration to a close with warmth and unity.
