“Nazrul’s ideology inspires as guiding light” – Speakers at NDUB

Speakers at a program at Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) have said that National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s ideology, rooted in an uncompromising struggle for truth and justice, can serve as a guiding light for the people of Bangladesh.

They made this remark while speaking at the program titled “Nazrul Borsho and Teachers’ Day 2026” held at the NDUB auditorium on Tuesday (October 13, 2026).

The program began with a one-minute silence observed in memory of Fr. Benjamin Costa, CSC, former Vice Chancellor of NDUB, followed by a welcoming dance performed by NDUB students. Students also presented flowers and tokens of appreciation to their teachers as a gesture of respect and gratitude.

A candle-lighting ceremony was then held, led by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fr. Charles B. Gordon, CSC, Registrar Dr. Bro. Subal Lawrence Rozario, CSC, Proctor Fr. Placid Proshanto Rozario, CSC, and Dean Prof. Dr. Aloke Kumar Chakraborty.

During his speech, Fr. Charles said, “Personal values and appreciation are indispensable for a nation to become a true nation and to forge a meaningful national identity. It is teachers who build the bridge for a nation that connects humanity’s past achievements with its future building.” Referring to the national poet, he noted that Kazi Nazrul Islam built this very bridge for this nation through his ideology and powerful language, which continues to inspire generations.

Dr. Md. Jamir Hossain, Associate Professor of English Department, paid rich tribute to the poet’s enduring legacy while speaking on “Nazrul as a National Poet”. He said, “Nazrul was a bearer of truth. He struggled for truth and justice throughout his life and never compromised. He consistently fought against exploitation, deprivation, subjugation, and the loss of individual dignity. Still, he remains relevant at every moment.” He added that in Nazrul Borsho, the poet’s ideology can serve as a guiding light for the people of Bangladesh.

Honoring the teaching profession, Bro. Subal said, “Teachers are the architects of human beings. Despite having access to all kinds of opportunities, luxuries, and comforts, they think of others. They build lives. They even stand beside others beyond their own means.”

Prof. Aloke Kumar addressed the gathering on “Student and Teacher Relationships”, while Priorty Laticia Rebeiro, student from the Microbiology Department, shared reflections of gratitude to teachers.

The program also featured a prize-giving ceremony, where students were awarded for their outstanding performances in different competitions held on the occasion of Nazrul Borsho. Later, violinist Md. Mahmudul Hasan, along with his team, performed classical music dedicated to the national poet.
