The program commenced with everyone, including the Chief Guest, taking seats. The national anthem was performed solemnly following the hoisting of the national flag. Then the new students were warmly greeted with flowers. Father Adam S. Pereira, CSC, introduced the new students to their respective departments. He then acquainted the newcomers to the faculty and administrative officers of the university.
Notre Dame University Bangladesh, located in the capital’s Motijheel area, organized a colorful orientation program to welcome the newly enrolled students of Fall Trimester 2021. The event took place on Friday, 17 September in the auditorium of the university. Professor Tahmina Ahmed of Dhaka University was virtually present as the Chief Guest on the occasion. The University Registrar Father Adam S, Pereira, CSC, Dean Professor. Alok Kumar Chakraborty, Deputy Exam Controller Father Boniface Tolentino, CSC, were the special guests of honor. The orientation program was well attended by the new students, administrative officers, faculty, and staff members of NDUB. University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Father Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC, presided over the ceremony.
Welcoming the new students to the Notre Dame family, the Vice-Chancellor said that getting a degree is not the sole purpose of education. The vital objective of education is to achieve the welfare of the society and the nation at large by contextual and proper application of the acquired knowledge. The Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of effective teachers, infrastructural facilities, and research opportunities to develop the quality of education. Notre Dame University Bangladesh is giving attention to all these factors for imparting quality education.
Nazifa Anjum, one of the newly oriented, expressed her feelings saying, “It is a privilege for all of us to have the opportunity to study at Notre Dame University. I got admitted here with many expectations.” She looks forward to graduating successfully and fulfilling her goals and expectations.
The chief guest in her speech lauded the teachers at NDUB. She appreciated their sincerity and friendliness. Addressing the freshmen students, she said, “Live your life.” University life is the right time to build ourselves. It is an excellent time to develop oneself as a skilled, knowledgeable, and good citizen. This university offers many co-educational activities. You can grab and make the best use of this opportunity to develop yourselves as competent and qualified individuals. University life comes with much freedom. We have to nurture this freedom and prepare ourselves to be the driving forces of the nation’s development.
In the course of the program, Sister Shagarika Maria Gomes, Asst. Director of Student Affairs briefed the new students on the code of conduct and the club activities of the University. The Director of the Language Club, Father Tom McDermott, gave the newly admitted students a tour of the campus, followed by a speech from the Dean, Dr. Alok Kumar Chakraborty. Then one of the current students, Golam Alif, expressed his feelings and experiences at NDUB on behalf of the students. The Public Relations Office presented a documentary on NDUB.
Finally, the Deputy Exam Controller, Fr. Boniface Tolentino, CSC, gave a vote of thanks. He appreciated everyone responsible for the beautiful organization of the program. Then the current NDUB students filled the campus with joy with their marvelous song and dance performances.
Assistant Professor Habiba Akhter and Lecturer Sami Hossain Chishti conducted the entire program in an organized manner under the supervision of Dr. Father Leonard Shankar Rozario, CSC.
Notre Dame University Bangladesh is moving forward to fulfill the dream of world-class education through the joint efforts of all, and the students are the real artisans in realizing this dream. Everyone involved with NDUB hopes that this educational institution will one day play a pivotal role in the progress of the country and the nation.
