Observance of Independent Day and Birthday of Bangabandhu

On the occasion of Independence Day and the 103rd birthday of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Notre Dame University Bangladesh organized a discussion meeting at the university premises on March 28 at 2:30 PM. Popular journalist, novelist, dramatist, and columnist Mr. Anisul Haque was present as the chief guest. The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Fr. Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC. The ceremony started with the national anthem and the hoisting of the national flag. Then Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, Registrar, Chief Guest, and Professor Dr. Father Charles B, Gordon, CSC paid tribute by laying wreaths and lighting lamps at the portrait of Bangabandhu. After that, everyone stood and observed a minute of silence in memory of all the martyrs who died in the war of independence, the happiness and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh, and the deceased members of Bangabandhu’s family.
The Vice-Chancellor in his welcome speech mentioned that for the welfare of the country and the nation, we should all stand against tyranny and lawlessness as conscious citizens of this country and boldly move ahead in the path shown by Bangabandhu by increasing the rate of education.
After that, one of the university students highlighted the significance of Independence Day and various aspects of Independence Day. In this sequence, the chief guest mentioned that sports, clubs, organizations, and national days should be celebrated as well as focus on studies so that individual development is achieved along with the progress of the country and nation. Whatever you are engaged in, try to give your best. He also asked various questions to all present and gifted his books to the winners.
University students recited poems and performed music on the occasion. Finally, the Registrar of the university Dr. Fr. Leonard Shankar Rosario, CSC thanked everyone for making the event successful.
