Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) successfully organized an in-house training session on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) on September 3 and 10. The event, held at the NDUB Board Room, aimed at strengthening the capacity of the university’s new faculty members in the application of OBE principles, focusing on effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
Participants gained practical insights into the implementation of OBE through interactive group activities and presentations, preparing them to enhance their teaching methods to meet the institution’s quality assurance standards.
The training began with a welcome speech by Fr. Ashim Theotonius Gonsalves, CSC, Deputy Registrar of NDUB, who emphasized the importance of aligning teaching methodologies with OBE to ensure quality education. This was followed by an introduction to the course outline by Dr. Shaheena Sultana, Professor and Chairperson from the CSE Department.
Key sessions were delivered by multiple experienced faculty members. Nafisa Sultana, Associate Professor of the English Department, led a session on Bloom’s Taxonomy, explaining how it can be used to set Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and prepare effective questions. Dr. Shaheena Sultana facilitated a session on question preparation, while Professor A.H.M. Saiful Islam from the CSE Department covered the use of the OBE Excel Sheet for tracking student performance. Aziza Akhter, Assistant Professor from the BBA Department, provided insights into maintaining comprehensive course files. Md. Muniruzzaman, Assistant Professor of the English Department, conducted the session on Rubrics Practice and Question Pattern System, covering the whole last day of the training.
The session concluded with remarks from Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, Dean and Additional Director of NDUB’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), who expressed gratitude to the facilitators and participants for their active engagement. The event saw participation from 17 faculty members, including nine new recruits, with contributions from experienced faculty and administration.
In addition to the facilitators and faculty, several other key administrative members attended the training, including Fr. Badhon Hilarious Rozario, CSC, Deputy Exam Controller; Dr. Md. Shahidul Kabir, Professor and Chairman of the Microbiology Department; Bidduth Chambugong, Administrative Officer from the Registrar’s Office; Emad Uddin Sordar, Public Relations Officer; Elias Tudu, Assistant Officer from the HR Office; and AKM Mazharul Islam, IT Officer. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort in ensuring the successful implementation of OBE practices at NDUB.
