Md. Abdul Goffur, (Retd) Senior District Judge son of Late Moulavi Mangal Sarder and Late Most. Jobeda Khatun was born in his home district, Madaripur in the year of 1954 and had his early education in Madaripur. After successful completion of the Secondary School Certificate (S.S.C) and Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C) with both distinction in Mathematics from Kaligonj High School Kalkini, Madaripur and Nazimuddin College, Madaripur respectively; he has obtained the LLB degree and thereafter, LLM from the University of Dhaka by the year 1978 and 1980 consecutively.

Goffur started his judicial career as Munsif in the same year of passing LLM and after a successful professional journey of 16 and a half year in the judicial service, he was promoted as the District and Sessions Judge in 1996 and held the first Special Court of Nari O’ Shishu Nirjatan Daman, Dhaka and thereafter, served as the Honorable District and Sessions Judge in the districts of Cox’s Bazar, Bagerhat, Noakhali, Chittagong, Sylhet and Dhaka successively. Altogether, he held the office of District and Sessions Judge in his capacity for about 18 years successfully which is the record period of time in the judicial history of Bangladesh.

Besides all these, he was the Honorable President / Member of Customs, Excise & Vat Appellate Tribunal of Dhaka. He was also the Honorable Member of the Administrative Appellate Tribunal, Dhaka in the position of Senior District Judge and then retired from the service in 2014.

During his service, he attended a good number of national seminar, training and workshop program and also participated in several international symposiums / training programs and went to India, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom etc. After being retired from Bangladesh Judicial Service; he has started his teaching vocation as Associate Professor of Law at NDUB. He is the Founder Chair of the Department of Law, Notre Dame University Bangladesh and has been working in the same capacity since the inception of the University to till-date.

It is commendable to mention that Goffur is a Freedom Fighter. Being trained by the Indian Army at Birbhum Training Centre, India; he joined Sector No. 8 and took active part in the Liberation War of 1971 under the leadership of the Sector Commander, the then Major Manzur.
