Nafisa Sultana

Ms. Nafisa Sultana was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh and began her early education in Dhaka. She did her O’level from New English School, Kuwait and H.S.C from Holy Cross College, Dhaka. She graduated with B.A.(Honors) in English and M.A. in English from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She also did another M.A. in English Language Teaching (ELT) from Dhaka University. She obtained certification on Teaching English as Second Language (TESL) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) from Toronto, Canada.
Nafisa joined University of Asia Pacific (UAP) in Dhaka in 1998 as Teaching Assistant and worked there till 2011 as Assistant Professor. During her long tenure at UAP she worked as Coordinator of Interdepartmental Courses and held the position of Convener of various committees and successfully organized English Language courses and programmes on many different issues. She was also one of the leading team members to develop syllabi for B.A. (Hons) and M.A. in English at UAP.
After getting certification in TESL, Nafisa taught English as Second Language (ESL) to students in Language Instructions to Newcomers to Canada (LINC) programmes and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to undergraduate students at Seneca College of Arts and Science, both in Toronto, Canada.
She has research publications and national and international conference presentations on teaching and learning English in Bangladesh, highlighting many barriers and their probable solutions.
Nafisa’s area of interest is teaching English language to students from multiple backgrounds in order to understand what technique of teaching can be developed to enhance the competence levels of students with various learning needs.
