Prof. A. H. M. Saiful Islam is an accomplished academic, researcher, and higher education administrator with nearly two decades of experience in teaching, research, academic leadership, curriculum development, and quality assurance in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). Throughout his career, he has been committed to fostering academic excellence, promoting innovative teaching and learning practices, and preparing graduates to meet the evolving demands of the global technology landscape.

He earned his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science and Engineering from Khulna University in 2003. His undergraduate thesis focused on Bioinformatics, and the outcomes of this research were published in the International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT). He later completed his Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science and Engineering from North South University, where his research was presented and published in the 2nd International Conference on Informatics, Electronics and Vision (ICIEV 2013).

Prof. A. H. M. Saiful Islam completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from Motijheel Ideal School and College in 1996 and his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Notre Dame College, Dhaka, in 1998. During his student life, he consistently demonstrated dedication and discipline, receiving awards for 100% class attendance at both school and college.

Academic Leadership

Prof. A. H. M. Saiful Islam began his academic career in 2006 as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Development Alternative (UODA).

His commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and institutional development led to his promotion as Assistant Professor and subsequent appointment as Head of the Department in 2009. During his tenure, he successfully led numerous academic and administrative initiatives, including:

  • Developing the M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering curriculum.
  • Coordinating undergraduate capstone projects and internship programs.
  • Modernizing departmental academic activities and quality assurance practices.
  • Leading departmental administration and academic planning, for which he received institutional recognition.

In 2012, Prof. A. H. M. Saiful Islam joined the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Daffodil International University (DIU).

At DIU, he made significant contributions to both academic and co-curricular activities. His responsibilities included:

  • Member, Departmental Project Committee.
  • Organizing Secretary, 17th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT 2014).
  • Moderator, DIU Competitive Programming Club (CPC).
  • Supervisor of numerous undergraduate research projects and internship programs.
  • Active contributor to curriculum development, research collaboration, and student mentoring.

Currently, as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB), Prof. A. H. M. Saiful Islam is leading the department in academic planning, curriculum modernization, quality assurance, research development, and strategic initiatives aligned with international standards of engineering education.

Teaching and Research Interests

Prof. Islam’s teaching and research interests include: Programming and Problem Solving, Software Engineering, Discrete Mathematics, Theory of Computation, Information Technology Management, Mobile Computing, Wireless Computing, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning.

He is passionate about integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications and inspiring students to become innovative, ethical, and industry-ready professionals.

Research and Scholarly Contributions

Prof. Islam has authored and co-authored numerous scholarly publications in reputable international conferences, peer-reviewed journals, and national conferences. His research spans both theoretical and applied areas of computer science, with contributions in software engineering, computing technologies, engineering education, and emerging areas of information technology.

He actively collaborates with fellow researchers and continues to supervise undergraduate research projects that encourage innovation and address contemporary technological challenges.

He has played an active role in implementing OBE practices through: Designing OBE-based curricula., Mapping Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs), Curriculum mapping and assessment planning, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)., Assessment rubric development, CLO-PLO attainment analysis., Preparation for accreditation and quality assurance activities, Faculty mentoring on OBE implementation.

His experience enables him to bridge academic excellence with industry expectations while ensuring continuous enhancement of engineering education.

To strengthen his expertise in engineering education and quality assurance, Prof. A. H. M.
