Father Patrick re-appointed as Notre Dame University Bangladesh VC

Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Father Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC, has been reappointed by the honorable President of the country who is also the Chancellor of the university, Md. Abdul Hamid.

A gazette notification signed by Dr. Md. Farhad Hossain, Deputy Secretary, was issued by the Education Ministry on August 22 in these regard.

In conformity with section 31 (1) of the Private University Act, 2010, with the approval of the President, this second appointment of Father Patrick Daniel Gaffney as the Vice-Chancellor extends for a term of four years, the gazette notification stated.

A Holy Cross Priest, Father Patrick Gaffney was born and brought up in the USA. He obtained his MA and PhD degrees in Anthropology from the University of Chicago, BA in Classical and Modern Languages and Literature and MA in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA.

With a vast experience of 37 years in teaching, research, and administration at University of Notre Dame, USA, he was also a visiting professor at Dhaka University in 2012-2013.

On August 8, 2017, Father Patrick was initially appointed as the VC of NDUB by President and Chancellor Md. Abdul Hamid. During his tenure, Fr. Patrick has contributed to the infrastructural and overall development of the university including standard curriculum development. In January 2023, the university is scheduled to move from current quarters into a newly constructed seven-storey building on its campus. This new facility will allow NDUB to expand current academic programs and to add new departments.

Notre Dame University Bangladesh was approved by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on April 29, 2013.

NDUB’s Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Fr. George Kamal Rozario, CSC, Treasurer Fr. Adam S. Pereira, CSC, Registrar (In-charge) Dr. Fr. Leonard Shankar Rozario, CSC, other administrative staff, teachers and students extended best wishes to Father Patrick.
