From dreams to direction: NDUB guides students’ future

What comes after higher secondary education? Which path should a student choose? And what kind of education can shape a meaningful life? These were some of the questions at the heart of outreach programs organized by Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) for post-HSC students.

The programs, themed “Notre Dame in Higher Education”, brought NDUB closer to students in different parts of the country. The students got an opportunity to learn about the Notre Dame tradition, Holy Cross education, and the facilities available for higher education at NDUB.

The events were held with students of the Rajshahi Diocese on August 23, the Dhaka and Sylhet Dioceses on August 24, the Khulna Diocese on August 31, and Notre Dame School and College, Sreemangal, on August 25. The outreach team included Fr. Ashim Theotonius Gonsalves, CSC, Deputy Registrar, Emad Uddin Sordar (Maruf), Senior Officer of Public Relations, and Newton Mondol, Public Relations Officer.

Beginning with the roots of the tradition, Fr. Ashim spoke on the history of the Congregation of Holy Cross and its journey to Bangladesh. He shared how the Holy Cross mission has remained closely connected with education and the formation of young people.

Discussing the development of Holy Cross education in Bangladesh, Newton highlighted the establishment of institutions from primary and secondary schools to colleges and finally NDUB. He explained how these institutions have provided quality education and nurtured discipline, values, and a sense of responsibility among students.

The discussion then turned to Emad Uddin, who inspired students to make the right decisions about their future. Introducing NDUB as a distinguished hub of quality and value-based higher education, he highlighted the university’s environment, opportunities, and facilities available to students. He also encouraged the students to think carefully about their abilities, aspirations, and choices as they enter higher education.

However, the sessions were not limited to presentations. Question-and-answer sessions allowed students to engage directly with the outreach team, raise questions, and learn more about higher education and university life. The sessions also came alive with action songs and motivational stories that encouraged students to look beyond simply choosing a university or a subject. They were reminded that the decisions made at this stage can influence the direction of their lives.
