Microbiology is going to launch its academic activities as a new department at Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) after approval from the University Grant Commission (UGC) on Tuesday (June 11).

The university authorities will begin the admission of new students for the undergraduate Microbiology course, covering four years leading to a bachelor’s degree, from the next Fall Semester scheduled to commence on July 14.

NDUB Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Fr. Charles B. Gordon, CSC said, “Our new Microbiology program begins an exciting new chapter in the growth of Notre Dame University Bangladesh. Now that the program has been officially approved, we can’t wait to get started with our first students being admitted in the Fall Semester. We have excellent faculty and brand-new facilities and are confident that Notre Dame students will contribute to this important field of study.”

Notre Dame University Bangladesh has established Microbiology as the first step in launching the Faculty of Biological Science. The new discipline has added a new dimension to current programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Business Administration, English, Law, and Economics. The university has now a total of six departments to conduct its academic activities after the inclusion of Microbiology.

The decision to begin this program reflects the increasing importance of Microbiology in today’s world as one of the most significant branches of Biology. Applications of Microbiology play a key role in areas such as disease prevention, pharmacy, medical research, genetics, public health, animal husbandry, food processing, cosmetics, agrochemicals, pollution control, conservation, environmental management, etc.
